356 Mission
NLa was commissioned by Gavin Brown’s Enterprise and artist Laura Owens to take an existing 15,000 s.f. warehouse space in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles and design renovations to support the inaugural exhibition “Laura Owens: Twelve Paintings”. We also redesigned the entrance to the building and interior for Ooga-Booga #2 which serves as a sort of reception space for Mission Road. A kitchen was also designed by NLa to serve as a day-to-day staff pantry but with capability of serving as a catering kitchen for larger events. The project was originally conceived as a temporary exhibition space but the discrete nature of the design and the integrity of the original structure have proved to be durable in supporting numerous public exhibitions and events.
