This was the second shop completed for this client. It is located in Santa Monica very close to the beach. It was a conventional storefront except for an indented space to the right that made the store L-shaped. This area was designated for the sales counter and detailed display such as rare vintage sneakers. The wall, counter and ceiling in this area were wrapped with maple boards reclaimed from a high school gymnasium floor. The reference to athletics become abstract and collage-like. The right hand wall where customers sit to try on shoes was clad in glazed brick reminiscent of locker rooms. The shelving is made of thick maple boards that float off of a wall graphic designed by Brent Rollins. It depicts a hypothetical brawl between sports characters of different types: football players, baseball, referees. The shelving turns ninety degrees at front window to become window display for pedestrians.
